NBE: Running Out On A feeling.
Producer | Set Design | Assistant Director
THE PROJECT
Aaron Peterson, frontman of indie-pop band New Body Electric, knew he wanted a music video. Beyond that, he wasn’t sure exactly what story to tell. There was a vision for dreamy visuals, but narrative and direction were still a mystery.
It’s a rewarding experience to be given artistic freedom.
THE PROCESS
Listening to the song on repeat, immersing ourselves in its melody, rhythm, and emotional tone, we brainstormed narrative concepts that would best complement the music’s atmosphere. From there, we began storyboarding visual sequences.
Set design and art direction were rewarding. I spent considerable time exploring how different color schemes would enhance narrative, and would show the right emotions for the song. Exploration of hues and textures shaped visual tone.
The first step is assembling a strong, well-suited team. It was essential to find a Director of Photography who possessed a keen eye for cinematography and was skilled in post-production tools including After Effects and advanced VFX. Given project complexity, which involved intricate visual effects and green screen work, technical expertise was a must.
THE RESULT
This music video combines complex camera work, special effects, and storytelling, to create an immersive experience.
